How to apply for Authentication for an orphan's status

This service allows citizens to officially verify and obtain confirmation of their orphan status from the Rwandan government. It issues an official orphan certificate that can be used to access legal assistance and benefits for orphans. The service is provided by the Ministry of Local Government ( MINALOC).

The processing time is 1 day, and the service is free of charge.


Prerequisites:

  • Applicants without an Irembo account can not apply for this service. Click here to learn how to create an account.

  • Applicants should have a  Rwandan national ID or child ID  for a minor.

  • Death certificate or court judgment document for the deceased parent(s) should be available.

  • Applicants should have a valid email address and/or phone number to receive notifications.


Step 1: Visit IremboGov platform at www.irembo.gov.rw. Under family services, select Authentication for an Orphan's Status.



Step 2:  Click "Apply" to start an application.

Step 3: Enter Applicant Details (Select your identification document type (National ID or Child ID); Provide your personal details, like name, date of birth, phone number, etc. 


Step 4: Fill in the processing details 


Step 5: Enter Processing Office Location (you must attach the death certificate or court judgment as supporting documentation), then click Next.




Step 6: Verify that the information is true; enter a phone number and/or email address, check the verification box, and click Submit. 

You will receive a confirmation SMS and/or email upon submitting your application and supporting documents.

Once the processing office approves your application, you will receive your e-certificate via email or can download the orphan certificate from Irembo platform.
