How to Request for tax Exemption of personal belongings of Rwandans returning home from abroad


This service requests tax Exemption for the personal belongings of Rwandans returning home from abroad permanently. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs ( MINAFFET) processes and provides the application.


The processing time is 2 Days, and the service is free of charge.


Prerequisites

To apply for this service, you need:

  • Applicants with or without an IremboGov account can apply for this service.

  • An applicant must have a national ID or valid passport.

  • A valid phone number or email address.

Required attachments (4)

  • Proof of Residence in a Foreign country / consular

  • Proof of Rwandan citizenship

  • Vehicle's yellow card / Copy of last card insurance certificate

  • List of personal belongings to be exempted

Follow these steps to apply for this service.


1. Go to www.irembo.gov.rw. Under Foreign Affairs Consular Services, select “Request for tax Exemption of personal belongings of Rwandans returning home from abroad.


2. Click Apply to start a new application.


3. Enter the applicant's details (Passport type and details, marital status, residence details, and employee status).

4. Enter the vehicle’s details if you have one; provide the brand type and chassis number.


5. Upload the required documents, then click Next.


6. Verify that the information is true, enter a phone number and/or email address, check the verification box, and click Submit. 

7. An application number (B2…...) to track your application status


The MINAFFET office will process your application. If approved, you'll receive an email with your recommendation letter attached.
