Frequently Asked Questions About Land Title Transfer

Land services include title transfers. Landowners transfer rights through succession, voluntary sale, donation, exchange, and court judgment. These services are provided by Rwanda Land Management and Use Authority (RLMUA).

Succession


How much do I pay for a transfer by succession?

This service is free. 

Do I need an IremboGov account to apply for a transfer by succession?

Yes, the successor should visit the nearest Irembo agent with the deceased’s ID number that corresponds to the land’s UPI. 

What are the requirements needed to apply for a transfer by succession?

The applicant should have the land owner's national ID or passport, successor’s ID, the original copy of the land document, a certificate of succession, a valid phone number, and email address.

Can I apply for a transfer by succession if I lost my original copy?

You should first apply for the land document replacement.

Do I need to pick up my land title after applying for the transfer by succession from the sector? 

Yes, you will pick up the land title’s hard copy from RLMUA after it has been processed. 

What is the size of attachments allowed to be uploaded on IremboGov?

Land title and other certificates (Format: PDF, Size: 500KB).

What is the processing time to get my new land document?

The processing time is 7 working days.

When does the transfer by succession billing number expire?

The billing number expires time in 30 days.

Can I apply for a new billing number when I have a pending billing number?

No, you will contact the IremboGov support team to cancel the pending billing number.

Can I apply for a new application when I have a pending application?

No, you will contact the Sector Land Manager (SLM) or the District Land Admin (DLA) to cancel the pending transaction.


Voluntary sale


How much do I pay for a voluntary sale?

This service is free. 

Do I need an IremboGov account to apply for a voluntary sale?

Yes, the seller should have an IremboGov account to apply for this service or visit the nearest Irembo agents for assistance. Whereas, the buyer should also visit the nearest Irembo agents with the seller’s ID number that corresponds to the land’s UPI.

What are the requirements needed to apply for a voluntary sale?

The applicant should have the seller's national ID, buyer's ID or passport, the original copy of the land document, a valid phone number, and an email address.

Can I apply for a voluntary sale if I lost my original copy?

You should first apply for the land document replacement.

Do I need to pick up my land title after applying for the voluntary sale from the sector? 

Yes, you will pick up the land title’s hard copy from RLMUA after it has been processed.

The price for this service is Rwf 500.

Do I need an IremboGov account to apply for a transfer by donation?

Yes, the donor should have the IrembboGov account or visit the nearest Irembo agent for assistance. Whereas, the beneficiary should also visit the nearest Irembo agents with the donor’s ID number that corresponds to the land’s UPI. 

What are the requirements needed to apply for a transfer by donation?

The applicant should have the donor's national ID, beneficiary's ID or passport, the original copy of the land document, a certificate of civil status of the donor, a valid phone number, and email address.

Can I apply for a transfer by donation if I lost my original copy?

You should first apply for the land document replacement.

Do I need to pick up my land title after applying for the transfer by donation from the sector? 

Yes, you will pick up the land title’s hard copy from RLMUA after it has been processed.

The price for this service is Rw 500.

Yes, one of the landowners should have the IremboGov account or visit the nearest Irembo agent for assistance.

What are the requirements needed to apply for a transfer by exchange?

The applicant should have the land owner’s ID or passport, the original copy of the land document, the certificate of civil status of the donor, a valid phone number, and an email address.

Can I apply for a transfer by exchange if I lost my original copy?

You should first apply for the land document replacement.

No, the Executor should have an IremboGov account or visit the nearest Irembo agent for assistance.

What are the requirements needed to apply for a transfer by a court of judgment?

The applicant should have the landowner'swner's ID or passport, the original copy of the land document, the court order, the beneficiary's national ID, a valid phone number, and an email address.

Can I apply for a transfer by a court of judgment if I lost my original copy?

You should first apply for the land document replacement or use the court order if it indicates that the document is not needed.

Do I need to pick up my land title after applying for the transfer by court of judgment from the sector? 

Yes, you will pick up the land title’s hard copy from RLMUA after it has been processed.
