1. Who is required to undergo motor vehicle emission inspection?
All private vehicles and commercial vehicles operating in Rwanda are required to undergo emission testing, except for fully electric vehicles and international vehicles that do not stay more than 3 months in Rwanda.
2. When should I apply for a motor vehicle emission inspection?
You can apply for this service only if your mechanical inspection certificate has expired. To apply for this, you must have booked your mechanical inspection appointment to avoid multiple visits. To know how to apply for it, click here
3. How often do I need to take the emission test?
Private (non-commercial) vehicles: Once a year
Commercial vehicles: Twice a year
4. Do I need an IremboGov account to apply for a motor vehicle emission inspection?
Applicants with or without an Irembo account can apply for this service. However, to ensure the privacy of your information and convenient access to your previously requested applications and notifications, we advise you to apply through an IremboGov account. To create one, click here.
5. Where are the emission inspections conducted?
At the same Contrôle Technique centers that conduct mechanical inspections: Remera, Rwamagana, Huye, and Musanze.
6. What happens if my vehicle fails the emission test?
If your vehicle fails, you must carry out the recommended repairs and re-apply for the test. The 2nd visit will be charged at 50% of the initial inspection fee (if you apply within 14 days after the failed test).
Note: If you exceed the 14 days, you will be charged the full first visit payment

Your appointment is confirmed instantly once payment is completed.
9. Do I need to clear my traffic fines before applying?
Yes. All outstanding fines must be cleared before booking an inspection appointment.
10. Do I get a certificate after the test?
Yes. If your vehicle passes, you will receive an e-certificate in your email, or you can download it on IremboGov.
11. What happens if I miss my appointment due to an emergency that prevents me from taking the test on the scheduled date?
Please be advised to visit the inspection center you selected with your proof of payment for assistance.

13. When does the billing number expire?
The billing number is valid for one hour only( 1hr). Users must complete payment before it expires. If the bill ID has expired, you will need to re-apply.
