How to apply for the replacement for refugee travel documents

This service allows refugees to request a replacement of an official refugee travel document. Reasons for replacement include lost, stolen, damaged, and correction. The service is provided by the Directorate General of Immigration and Emigration (DGIE). 


The processing time is 2 days, and the price is RWF 30,000.


Prerequisites:

  • Applicants with or without an IremboGov account can apply for this service.

  • Click here to create an account

  • Applicants should have UNHCR Proof of Registration number

  • A Refugee national ID for adults

  • A copy of the previous travel document that is being replaced.

  • Applicants should have a valid phone number, email address, or both.

4. Parents' marriage certificate or any other proof of marriage

5. Child birth certificate

6. Death certificate of the deceased parent

7. Copy of a legal guardianship

8. Copy of the guardian's identity card

9. Copy of parents divorce court judgment

10. Certificate of celibacy for the mother

11. Certificate of recognition

Optional attachments (4)

1. Copy of valid refugee card

2. Copy of the refugee card of the mother

3. Copy of the living parent's Identity card

4. Refugee registration certificate



Follow these simple steps to Replace the refugee travel document

  1. Visit www.irembo.gov.rw   and under Immigration and Emigration, click on Refugee Travel Document Application. 


  1. Select “Replacement of Refugee Travel Document” and click on Apply

  1. Fill in the applicant details as prompted.



4. Enter the travel details, such as the destination country, travel purpose, and reasons for travel.

Note: Once you confirm that you live in a refugee camp, the collection place will automatically be set to that camp.

5. Upload the required attachments in the correct format and click Next.

6. Verify that the information is true, enter a phone number and/or email address, check the verification box, and click on Submit.

7. A billing number/ID (88….) will be generated for payment click pay.

NOTE: After applying and paying successfully via IremboGov, the applicant receives a feedback notification from the Directorate General of Immigration and Emigration informing them when to take the biometric tests, either at DGIE headquarters or at a district office.
