Rwanda Environment Management Authority (REMA) has introduced emissions testing alongside the existing mechanical inspections, conducted at Motor Vehicle Inspection centers commonly known as “Contrôle Technique centers.”
This service allows vehicle owners to:

Key Information Before Applying.
You can apply for this service only if your mechanical inspection certificate has expired.

Traffic Fines must be cleared: Any outstanding fines must be paid before booking an appointment.
Inspection frequency:
Private (non-commercial) vehicles: Once a year
Commercial vehicles: Twice a year
Note: Booking both mechanical and emission inspections at the same time will help you avoid multiple visits to the Motor Vehicle Inspection Center and get your service instantly.
Eligibility
All motor vehicles operating in Rwanda are required to apply, except for fully electric vehicles and international vehicles that won’t stay more than 3 months in Rwanda.
Note: Emission inspections for motorcycles (motos) are not yet available and will be communicated once introduced.

If your vehicle fails the 1st test, and you repair it, you will pay for the 2nd visit at only 50% of the first visit within 14 days of the failed test.
If you exceed the 14 days, you will be charged the full first visit payment
Steps to Apply for an Emission Inspection Appointment
Visit Irembo at www.irembo.gov.rw. Log in to the IremboGov platform.
If you don’t have an account, you can continue without logging in.

Search for Motor Vehicle Emission Inspection Appointment under “Infrastructure and Environment category, then click on it.
Click “Apply” to start the application.
Enter your vehicle details and confirm your eligibility by clicking on the search button. The vehicle details and the amount you will pay will automatically be reflected on the right side of the page.
Choose your preferred inspection center and date, then click next to proceed.
6. Verify that the information is true, enter a phone number and/or email address, check the verification box, and click Submit.
7. A billing number/ID (88…) will be generated for payment. Click Pay
Note: The billing number expires within one hour(1hr)

After Submitting Your Application
Upon payment, you will receive a notification by SMS or email confirming your date and time for the inspection and the inspection center.
Bring your vehicle to the selected center on the scheduled date.
Once your vehicle passes the emission inspection, you’ll be able to download the certificate directly from IremboGov. If you provided an email address, the certificate will also be sent to you as a PDF. Click here to know how to download a certificate on IremboGov.
