The Ministry of National Unity & Civic Engagement (MINUBUMWE) has established a service that allows both Rwandans and foreigners to visit Genocide Memorial Sites across the country. This service aims to provide an opportunity for people to learn about and pay respects to the victims of the 1994 Genocide Against the Tutsi in Rwanda.
The processing time is 2 days, and its price is free of charge.
Prerequisites
- Applicants can apply with or without an IremboGov account.
- Applicants must have an identification document (National ID or Passport)
- For Rwandan citizens, you will need your National ID number
- Foreigners residing in Rwanda must have a foreign ID
- EAC or CEPGL citizens must have a Passport number
- The required attachment is the list of group members, in case you are traveling as a group.
- Applicants should have a valid phone number or email address.
Follow these simple steps to apply for a visit to a Genocide Memorial site:
1. Visit the IremboGov platform at www.irembo.gov.rw under the "Rwanda museums" section, and click "Visiting Genocide Memorial Sites."
2. Click on the "Apply" button.
3. Select the “memorial site” you wish to visit.
Note: The visiting date has to be 2 days ahead.
4. Fill in the applicant'snt’s details, select the visitor category (Rwandan citizen, EAC citizen, CEPGL citizen, Foreigner residence with foreigner ID and international visitor) and click Next.
5. Verify the information is accurate, enter a phone number and/or email address, check the verification box, and click Submit.
6. An application number will be generated to follow up on the application status.
Once your application is approved, you will receive confirmation of your visit date via email or SMS.
